Bay Window Curtain Rods
Bay windows bring everything together. Your interior
decorative taste and the beauty of the outdoors come together
in the warmth of your home. That’s a pretty special
formula for success.
The bay window curtain rods and treatments you select will
have a lot to do with how stylish and practical your bay window
will be. You will have many curtain, drape and blind
options to choose from, but before you get that far, you will
have to get some measurements and make some informed hardware
decisions about bay window curtain rods, brackets and
extendable poles.
When it comes to bay windows, decorators do not make quick
decisions. You may want to observe the bay from both the
inside and outside before making any final decisions.
Observe how the light moves through the window and into the
room. What will you try to accomplish with your window
treatments? Will you welcome more light or do you want
more shade? Does the window capture too much light?
Can the light be filtered? What can your window treatment
choices do to enhance the room?
When you are comfortable with the light, the bay and the
room, you will be ready to select your hardware. Some
windows are suited for a one-piece curved curtain rod.
Other bays may be better served with three individual rods or
you may opt to hang curtains from the side windows using two
single rods and leaving the center window with no covering.
Some people prefer wrought iron rods, while other people like
different styles instead.
Probably the most cost effective and efficient bay window
curtain rod selection is to use one standard rod above each
window section. If the rods are hung close enough they
can create the illusion of one continuous rod.
More elaborate treatments use valances, a rod pocket or
ringed curtain over the bay. Just about any curtain rod
can be converted to a bay window rod by using angled brackets
and curtain rod extensions. Rods can be easily cut to fit
any sized bay.
Double curtain rods allow layered and more decorative
curtains to be hung easily, with a nice drapery effect.
Double rods hold two adjustable rods. One rod is
aligned behind the other adding dimension to the window
treatment. With double curtain rods, the outer curtain is
often pulled back while the inner layer stays closed. The
inner layer is usually a thinner material that can filter the
light.
Double bay curtain curtain rods come with all the hardware
necessary for installation. Hey are strong enough to hold
heavier drapes. You may need to pick up double adjustable
brackets or a set of double scroll brackets. Whatever you
decide, make sure your selections capture the warmth and charm
that only a bay window can offer.
